Conventional Metal Braces Warragul, Victoria
Get a straighter smile with traditional metal braces treatment
You probably think of bulky brackets and archwires when you think about traditional metal braces, however they have come a long way. Brackets and archwires are smaller than ever before, which means you can worry less about the appearance.
Metal braces are also one of the most effective orthodontic treatments for teens and adults. They are perfect for fixing crooked teeth, closing gaps and treating malocclusions, and have become more advanced as time has gone on.
However, your career or personal preferences may prevent you from choosing metal braces, which is why we have alternatives, including ceramic braces, lingual braces and Invisalign.
How do metal braces work?
Over time, braces shift your smile by delivering continuous pressure to slowly move your teeth in specific directions. This not only moves the teeth, but also causes the bone to gradually change shape to accommodate the changes.
Features of braces include:
Brackets
Brackets are small squares, usually made from stainless steel or tooth-coloured ceramic which are bonded to each individual tooth, using a dental bonding agent or cement. These brackets are used to keep the archwires which apply pressure to the teeth in place.
Archwires
Wires which are connected through each bracket, and act as tracks to guide the teeth into straighter positions by applying slow, but gradual pressure. Archwires can too be made from stainless steel or tooth-coloured ceramic.
Orthodontic Bands
Stainless steel, tooth-coloured or clear bands that are cemented down and wrap around teeth to act as anchor points to keep the braces in place.
Spacers
Used to create adequate space for orthodontic bands.
Elastic Bands
Also known as ligatures, the purpose of these is to help align your bite properly, very important during the bite-fixing phase of your treatment. Elastic bands are also great for holding the archwires to the brackets.
There are more small features associated with meta braces and you will learn about these during your consultations at HiTech Ortho.
What does the braces process look like?
Initial Consultation
The first step to achieving straighter teeth with metal braces is to book in for a consultation with HiTech Ortho. During this consultation, we will find out everything we need to know about you and take a look at your teeth and take x-rays.
This will allow our team to determine if there is an issue which requires treatment, and which treatment options may be suitable for you.
We will also take impressions of your smile to help plan treatment.
Planning your Treatment
Our team will carefully analyse the data and impressions taken from the initial consultation to design a treatment which is individualised to you.
We will present the treatment to you, and it’s solely up to you whether you would like to undertake the treatment or not.
Getting the Braces
Once you have decided to go ahead with the treatment, our team can have you back into the clinic to prepare your teeth and place your braces.
The process involves a professional clean of your mouth, conditioning and priming your teeth for braces, and then placing and cementing the brackets onto your teeth. Next the archwires and other attachments will be inserted onto the brackets.
Discussion of Oral Care
Once your braces have been correctly fitted, you are ready to begin your treatment. But before you leave the clinic, our team will discuss details regarding living with your new braces.
This may include:
- How to clean with braces
- Dietary restrictions
- Future appointments for adjustments
